Education For Its Own Sake is an intiative to provide education that is free of the institutional controls that beset education. It follows that the initiative will be aiming to offer opportunities for high quality experiential, holistic learning. Experiential learning is learning based on the experiences of students either in their lives or in class. It recognises that experience is what we learn from and so to learn well we need good experiences in class. Holistic learning recognises that learning is not just about facts and skills, it is also about imagination and feelings.
The initiative has three parts: Education For Its Own Sake, the classes, The Educators Network for the support of educators (teachers, trainers etc., anyone who facilitates learning) and a network of supporters. Although all three are in support of Education For Its Own Sake they are each independent and people may be involved in any one, two or all three.
